Press play to hear Quinton Cameron talk about the inspirations for his painting.
Quinton Cameron is a native of LaGrange, GA and Atlanta who resides in the heart of Harlem. He is a self-taught painter who studied as an apprentice of Charly Palmer. In addition to painting, Quinton is an art director/graphic designer who has worked with several advertising agencies and design studios on numerous projects for major companies. He was influenced early by seeing works by Ernie Barnes on his favorite TV show “Good Times.” “I was fascinated by the rhythm and emotion of Barnes's work”, he says, “I identified with him not only because his was black but also he was an athlete that enjoyed art.” Quinton began to hone his skills as a member of the Owens's Art Group that included journeyman artist Carl Owens, Gilbert Young, Charly Palmer, Rawn McCloud, Dante, Dubelyoo, and Adrian Franks. They had occasional visits from Cedric Smith, Paul Goodnight, and Maurice Evans.
Painting mostly in acrylics and oils, Quinton likes to capture the emotions of a subject using colors foreign to the subject's skin tone. His new works are abstract portraits of contemporary subjects, overwhelmed texture, on political, religious, and socio-economical issues.
Quinton has works in private collections and has also exhibited in group shows.
