Edna Tatum has become one of America’s renowned commentators in the Gospel music arena. Her career began extending words of welcome, reading Sunday morning announcements, introducing choirs, groups and soloists.
Her ability to articulate and communicate the word of God has launched her into a vast arena of Gospel artists from coast to coast. “The Voice,” as she is fondly called, has hosted concerts and narrated for such gospel legends as Rev. James Cleveland, The Fourth of Mary, Rev. Daryl Coley, Albertina Walker, Kurt Carr and others. Ms. Tatum is also widely recognized as part of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, Inc.
Rev. James Cleveland recognized her talents and requested that she personally introduce him and the Southern California Community Choir on several occasions. Ms. Tatum’s career has included hosting the Gospel Music Academy Awards at the Apollo Theater in New York, University of California in San Diego and Charles Fold and the Charles Fold Singers in Cincinnati. She has also been guest commentator for many choirs all over America. A special highlight in her career was narrating a gospel music concert at the Sultan’s pool in Tel Aviv, Israel. Other special occasions include narrating the Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with a mass choir and symphony orchestra.
In addition to her role as a guest host and commentator, Ms. Tatum can be heard on recording projects with Rev. James Cleveland, Kurt Carr and the Kurt Carr Singers, Bishop Walter Hawkins and the Love Center Choir, Rev. Daryl Coley and Dottie Peoples. Her most creative endeavor is her own CD, “Words and Music, Vol. 1 – Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow,” recorded with the famed Billy Preston.
Ms. Tatum continues to participate in hosting and commentary roles but also enjoys her role as a gospel radio announcer on KPFK-FM 90.7 in Los Angeles.
