For many years now, the name Clifford Brown, Jr. has been synonymous with broadcasting in the San Francisco Bay Area as award winning Radio Personality, award winning Program Director, Broadcast Operations Manager and National Programming Consultant, among other titles.
Brown was born in Philadelphia, PA and raised in Los Angeles. His father was the legendary, internationally acclaimed jazz trumpeter Clifford Brown. After his father’s death, his mother La Rue Brown continued to support the music community. She raised Brown to love and appreciate music.
Brown always wanted to work in radio. "The idea of having a job where you could both entertain and enlighten people appealed to me very early. By the time I was ten, I knew I was headed for a career in radio."
Brown got his first professional radio job at the age of 18 and before he turned 30 had been awarded the prestigious Golden Mic as the San Francisco Bay Area’s top radio personality. In 2007, the Black Music Association named him a “Living Legend” for his work on air and in the community.
Brown particularly enjoys working with musicians, either as an interviewer or as master of ceremonies. He’s had the privilege of interviewing or introducing thousands of jazz, gospel and R&B artists. He’s worked with personalities from Miles Davis to Stevie Wonder, Kirk Franklin to Dizzy Gillespie and Michael Jackson.
Brown is also passionate about his work in the community, including mentoring youth with incarcerated parents and working to improve health in the inner city.
